I’m a father, husband, teacher, educational technology advocate, web designer, and amateur photographer. I’m best known on the Interwebs for the work I do through NewSchool Learning: a boutique web design company catering to the Moodle community.

Education

I have a Bachelor’s degree in History from Michigan State University, and a teaching certificate from Grand Valley State University. I am endorsed to teach secondary History and Psychology, and do so as my primary career at a medium sized high school in Michigan.

I’m currently taking courses at Ball State University, and plan to earn a Master’s degree in Education Administration sometime in 2010.

Technology

I created my first website using Netscape Composer while in college back in 1999. While the site – (a dorm life blog) no longer exists (thank god), the experience of creating it sparked a passion for web publishing and taming code that still has yet to die.

In the summer of 2005, I bought my first domain (mrmalley.com) as a way of sharing information with students. Two months into the school year, I installed the Moodle Course Management System and had my students doing their homework online. Today, that concept has grown into a district wide virtual learning environment, which I currently manage.

I am a staunch advocate for the use of technology to enhance student learning. I believes that with the proper tools, and the proper training and support, teachers can empower students to become independent lifelong learners.

Nonsense

I love stuff that’s cool and can, at times, become quite obsessed with researching and/or obtaining things. As is typically the case with obsessions, I frequently write about and post links to topics that are not necessarily related to education or technology. Be prepared.

Colophon

This site is powered by the ubiquitous Wordpress publishing platform. The theme was hand-coded on a Mac using Coda for both XHTML editing and file transfers, and CSSEdit for styling.

Hosting is provided by Ion Web Services, who, by the way, have always provided excellent support for the services I use.
