Conference Connections, or Lack Thereof

Ben Grey:

I attended the Illinois Computer Educators’ conference a few weeks ago, and I was struck by a notable disconnect in almost every session I attended. In almost every case, the session focused on a tool or on a specific technology devoid of any pedagogy or specific framework of how the said technology impacts a student’s learning experience.

Well said. This is something that those of us the the EdTech world need to do more talking about going forward.

I attended a weeklong AP Psychology workshop in northern Michigan a few years back that was led by author and master teacher, Charles Blair-Broeker. I learned more about teaching in that one week than I did during the entire two years of teacher college. It is possible.

Teachers need discussions, conferences, and training on good teaching practices that are supported by good technology.
